The project manager is responsible for the day-to-day management, performance and reporting of all allocated projects and tasks. The Group manages a wide range of specialist capabilities, generating highly-differentiated solutions and products in the DEFENCE & AEROSPACE, SECURITY & CYBER, TRANSPORT and ENERGY markets by applying electronic and software technologies in demanding environments and critical applications to meet customer needs. This is predominantly an internally facing role where the Project Manager will take the lead on multiple projects (upwards of £250K each) and manage these through the full lifecycle. Part of a growing PMO team, the Project Manager will work on a wide range of projects varying in size, complexity and type.

Planning, Execution & Delivery

  • Produce compelling business cases and Project Initiation Documentation
  • Develop appropriate project estimates and plans to execute the project from start to finish
  • Update project plans using a range of intelligence including meeting outputs, management reports and workshops
  • Ensure stakeholder requirements are captured accurately and completely
  • Ensure deliverables are produced to the right standard, including the creation and maintenance of project documentation
  • Co-ordinate day-to-day activities ensuring that the project is running on time and to budget
  • Ensure the projects under your control are correctly resourced throughout the lifecycle
  • Work with the PMO to ensure the project is set up to succeed and the correct governance and controls are in place
  • Ensure projects are correctly closed down including completion of lessons learned, required documentation and controlled handover to the business

Maintaining Control

  • Regular identification, management and reporting of project risk in accordance with the Group Risk Management Framework
  • Monitor projects on an ongoing basis, evaluating progress/quality, driving issue resolution
  • Handle change requests in a controlled manner
  • Monitor financial delivery, including the production and analysis of financial reports to identify opportunities and avoid overspend
  • Set up Benefits Realisation Management measures and track progress against them
  • Understand and communicate key internal and external assumptions and dependencies
  • Identify and develop action plans to close gaps


  • Previous delivery of IT projects
  • Competent in managing the six aspects of a project, i.e. scope, schedule, finance, risk, quality and resources.
  • An expert in planning and estimating
  • Enjoys taking responsibility; decisive
  • Motivated by achieving set goals and targets, likes to see a project through to the end
  • Highly organised and action-focused with ability to meet internal deadlines, works well under pressure
  • Resourceful
  • Approachable and able to command respect and trust
  • Ability to motivate and encourage others
  • Matrix management of remote teams
  • Willingness to travel
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, in particular strong presentation and persuasive writing
  • Experience of stakeholder identification and management, and leading those affected through the change
  • Previous experience in a similar role in a large complex organisation
  • Ability to resolve conflict
  • Excellent problem solving skills and methods


  • Experience in implementing strategic projects
  • Experience of working within a global organisation
  • Knowledge of a variety of delivery styles
