Role: Research Scientist
R&D – Vacuum Coating
Location: Greater Manchester
Working hours: Full time, permanent and onsite
Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Research Scientist.
This is a fantastic opportunity to drive research and development projects that shape next-generation vacuum coating processes and high-performance machinery.
Key Responsibilities - Lead development of new process solutions and applications.
- Drive innovation in collaboration with suppliers, partners, and brand owners.
- Evaluate and optimise machine performance and process parameters.
- Plan and deliver trials with customers and internal R&D teams, maintaining clear technical documentation.
- Support Sales and Service teams with expert guidance pre- and post-sales.
- Oversee laboratory operations and implement best practices.
- Collaborate with Engineering teams to enhance machine design and functionality.
- Build strong relationships within the supplier ecosystem to foster innovation.
Skills & Experience - Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Materials Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in an R&D role within a relevant industry.
- Expertise in roll-to-roll vacuum deposition and vacuum plasma technologies.
- Knowledge of substrates and vacuum coating processes (flexible packaging and barrier applications advantageous).
- Proficient in research methods, project management, and technical reporting.
- Experience with surface analysis techniques (SEM, TEM, AFM) beneficial.
